Kalau engkau ke toko buku pasti ketemu buku motivasi. Sampulnya selalu ada tulisan: best seller, diterjemahkan 35 bahasa dan pujian dari tokoh ternama. Seolah berdosa jika kita tak membelinya. Sepertinya kita jadi makhluk purba kalau tak membacanya. Buku motivasi itu menyihir dan berusaha meyakinkan. Kalau orang sukses itu resepnya ada di tulisan di dalamnya. Macam-macam prosedurnya: mengubah pikiran, melatih kebiasaan hingga mereformasi ucapan. Semua itu tangga untuk meraih sukses.

Hampir semua buku itu ditulis dengan semangat serupa. Meyakinkan, memberi bukti dan membawa data. Kita tak bisa menyanggahnya dan kita sulit untuk mendebatnya. Terlebih kalau mereka bawa kisah orang berhasil dari berbagai negara. Seakan kita seperti penonton yang harus diam dan menikmati saja. Bukan hanya itu buku ini kerap kali mengutip komentar tokoh-tokoh penting dunia untuk memastikan gagasanya. Secara berlebihan buku motivasi juga menampilkan fakta tentang si penulis: pernah gagal, ambruk kemudian bangkit lagi.

Jadi kalau baca buku motivasi kita seperti masuk rumah fantasi. Diberitahu kita tentang bagaimana kiat, cara dan perubahan apa yang musti dilakukan. Ada yang bertahap, ada yang melompat dan ada yang pakai pertanyaan segala. Seperti pasien dungu kita bisa terperangah, sangat terkejut dan ketagihan jika tak mengerjakan resepnya. Karena semua buku motivasi memberi janji melebihi alam baka: dipastikan sukses, meraih hidup yang bermakna dan memperoleh pendapatan di atas rata-rata. Tiap buku motivasi ingin melahirkan manusia super: tak mudah sedih, sulit putus asa dan berhasil hidup dimana-mana.

Coba saja praktekkan semua buku motivasi itu. Tiap hari kamu jangan sedih. Kalau ada tantangan jangan mudah menyerah. Jika ada yang gagal tetaplah optimis. Jangan lupa tabah pada semua derita. Derita apa saja: hutang banyak, kekasih pergi hingga pekerjaan hilang. Semua itu hadapi sebagai kejatuhan sementara. Fokusmu adalah cita-citamu. Arah hidupmu bukan apa yang kamu alami tapi apa yang kamu impikan. Tak lupa bantulah orang lain. Hidup jangan turuti ego diri sendiri. Berpalinglah pada mereka yang susah. Bela, lindungi dan layani. Hampir mayoritas buku motivasi mengajak kita untuk perhatian pada orang lain. Jika diringkas semua itu berpusat pada mengubah pola pikir, aktivitas dan merubah sekitar.

Sekarang lakukan itu semua! Kamu pasti bingung karena dirimu betul-betul ‘berubah’. Dari yang bangun siang jadi pagi: dari yang suka curiga jadi mudah percaya; dari yang selalu skeptis jadi optimis; dari yang gampang marah jadi murah senyum. Tubuhmu tiba-tiba saja melompat ke alam yang baru: makin gampang percaya, tak malas melakukan apa saja dan terbiasa hidup dengan aturan yang tertata. Tiba-tiba kamu jadi manusia yang tak normal sama sekali: dikritik balas senyum, dihantam kegagalan malah bangkit dan menyaksikan sekitar jadi hal yang biasa. Bencana alam, korupsi, kejahatan HAM itu semua memang masalah yang bermula dari diri sendiri: seakan semua keyakinanmu pangkalnya tetap dari diri lebih dulu.

Kamu berubah abnormal: tak sedih, tak marah, tak kecewa dan optimis. Siapa yang mampu melakukan itu semua? Mereka yang memang berkantong tebal, punya posisi lumayan dan hidup tidak untuk cari pekerjaan. Buku itu cocok bagi kamu yang sudah kelebihan uang, banyak pekerjaan, tak ada hutang dan bisa senyum dalam segala keadaan. Buku itu lebih cocok lagi untuk para motivator yang memang pekerjaanya adalah memotivasi: memberikan sugesti, menciptakan kata-kata indah dan meyakinkan para pendengarnya. Lebih tepatnya lagi buku ini bukan untukmu yang upahnya rendah, pekerjaan yang masa depanya tak jelas dan hidup masih harus angsur kontrakkan. Bolehlah baca buku motivasi sesekali untuk ‘merasakan’ nikmatnya orang mapan: kagum atas keberhasilan yang diringkas indah, tersenyum 3benar memasung kesadaran.

Karena buku motivasi itu mampu membuatmu kritis pada diri sendiri. Penampilan, jadwal, kebiasaan dan komentar. Kamu tiba-tiba tak percaya pada kebiasaanmu dan pola pikirmu. Hanya saja untuk mengubah itu semua modalnya bukan niat semata. Ingat buku motivasi bukan buku panduan doa. Modalnya banyak: mengubah jaringan pertemanan, dari yang miskin ke yang mapan: mengubah pendapatan, dari yang untuk makan harus sediakan uang untuk pelatihan; mengubah sikap dari yang miskin dan berjuang jadi mapan kemudian berjuang. Kalau begitu buku motivasi itu untuk siapa sebenarnya?
