Siapa yang tidak bergidik dengan keberanian muda/mudi geng Rengasdenglok yang menculik Sukarno dan Hatta saat menjelang kemerdekaan Indonesia. Mereka menekan kepada dua proklamator tersebut untuk bersegera menyatakan kemerdekaan Indonesia dari kekuasaan kolonial Jepang dan mengamankan Indonesia dari ancaman kembalinya Belanda.
Dalam sejarah Indonesia, pemuda selalu menjadi motor penting perubahan. Benedict Anderson dalam salah satu master piescenya Revolusi Pemuda (2006) menyatakan bahwa pemuda adalah motor utama dalam revolusi Indonesia 1945. Pemuda dipandang sebagai seseorang yang punya kedudukan penting oleh Norman Joshua Soelias (2016) dalam dua hal, yakni dalam sisi objektif dan subjektif. Pertama, dari sisi obyektif pemuda mempunyai kesamaan umur yang mampu membentuk kesatuan politik. Kedua, sisi subjektif yaitu konstruksi masyarakat yang mengidentikkan pemuda sebagai subjek yang akan meregenerasi golongan tua.
Dari definisi subjektif dan objektif atas pemuda tersebut menggambarkan bahwa pemuda layak menjadi subjek politik yang otonom dan independent dari kepentingan komunitas di luar kepentingan pemuda. Pemuda harus bergerak secara bebas dalam politik dengan tuntutan-tuntutan etisnya tanpa perlu menjalin patronase dengan kekuatan poitik/sosial di luar mereka.
Saat ini, otonomi dan independensi gerakan merupakan krisis berat yang menderu gerakan anak-anak muda hari ini. Banyak organisasi pemuda yang tak punya otonomi dan independensi sebagai subjek politik. Mereka hanya terombang-ambingkan dalam gelombang perebutan dan negosiasi kue ekonomi dalam politik nasional. Organisasi pemuda hari ini oleh oligark politik nasional dibutuhkan hanya sebatas kekuatan mobilisasi massa. Mereka dibutuhkan sebagai kekuatan politik yang dapat mengamankan dan menjadi basis legitimasi para politisi oligark nasional.
Patronase yang menjangkiti organisasi pemuda hari ini tersebut oleh para petinggi organisasi pemuda dijadikan sebagai tangga penghubung untuk masuknya mereka ke lantai-lantai pusat kekuasaan kontrol alat-alat negara untuk penjarahan ekonomi rakyat. Mereka mengejar pos-pos kekuasaan yang dipegang oleh oligark politik yang menjadi patron mereka.
Dalam organisasi pemuda hari ini, otonomi dan independensi sudah lenyap. Saat ini mereka sudah masuk dan terperangkap pada jaring-jaring antar kelompok geng oligark politik kotor nasional yang berebut sumber-sumber ekonomi melalui kontrol alat-alat negara. Aalangkah bodohnya lagi, mereka ini tidak tau kalau sudah terperangkap dalam sistem oligarkis tersebut. Mereka tak mempunyai kecukupan pikiran dan keenganan untuk mengisi kepala mereka dengan seperangkat perspektif untuk membaca eksplanasi wadah politik Indonesia pasca Suharto yang didominasi oleh sistem oligarki.
Yang dimaksud oleh penulis sebagai otonomi dan independensi bukanlah sebuah kenaifan dan keengganan untuk terlibat secara aktif dalam politik nasional. Penulis justru mengharapkan adanya keterlibatan anak muda dalam politik nasioanal secara lebih radikal dan progresif. Tuntutan-tuntutan dan aksi politiknya harus langsung menyasar jantung dari oligarki dalam demokrasi nasional. Dengan adanya kekuatan politik anak muda yang otonomis akan menjauhkan kekuatan politik ini dari perangkap jaring-jaring oligarki nasional.
Tempat-tempat politik mereka adalah jalanan, bukan menjalin patronase dengan oligarki politik di Jakarta maupun di daerah. Tuntutan politik radikal mereka adalah kuliah gratis 100 %, iklim kebebasan akademis kampus dan demokratisasi untuk aktivitas mahasiswa di kampus dari intervensi rektorat dan apratus keamanan.
Mereka juga perlu menjalin aliansi politik dengan korban-korban penggusuran, gerakan buruh, gerakan perempuan, gerakan LGBT, gerakan HAM, gerakan reforma agraria dan gerakan anti kapitalisme global. Tempat politik anak muda bukanlah hilir mudik silaturrahmi dengan oligark politik di senayan, kantor kementrian, istana negara, kantor bupati, kantor gubernur dan institusi yang dikuasai oleh oligark politik.
Aliansi politik mereka adalah dengan mereka-mereka yang termarjinalkan. Misi politik mereka adalah pembebasan kaum marjinal. Bukan beraliansi dengan para oligark untuk mencari recehan. Justru institusi yang sering mereka kunjungi tersebutlah sumber dari segala masalah kita hari ini.
