Bayangkan jika LPTK bermasalah maka murid yang jadi korban. Selama ini pengurbanan murid sudah luar biasa untuk ikut dalam lembaga pendidikan. Siswa sedari awal memang berposisi sebagai penerima pengetahuan yang diberikan oleh guru. Pengetahuan itu ditanam dalam diri siswa melalui praktek pembelajaran yang masih berpusat pada guru. Dominasi guru yang membawa praktek pembelajaran menjadi satu arah. Kurangnya siswa untuk diajak berinisatif dan lemahnya guru dalam mempraktekkan pembelajaran yang demokratis menciptakan siswa yang loyal. Loyal pada apapun yang dikatakan oleh guru sehingga kurang kritis dalam pembelajaran. Akibatnya bisa kemana-mana.
Guru jadi pihak yang mendominasi apa saja. Salah satunya adalah pola penghukuman dan pendisplinan yang tak bisa dibedakan. Cara mendisplinkan sejajar dengan cara beri hukuman. Misalnya guru yang memberi hukuman fisik atau aturan sekolah yang terlambat maka harus tinggal di luar pagar. Hukuman itu bukan untuk memberi pelajaran tapi merendahkan. Cara seperti itu dengan mudah dilakukan karena memang guru tidak mengerti beda antara menghukum siswa atau memberinya pelajaran. Dominasi guru menimbulkan proses belajar mengajar menjadi sangat kaku serta tidak merangsang anak untuk mengikutinya dengan gembira. Model yang kemudian dikembangkan paling banyak adalah menghapal. Siswa serupa robot yang bisa berbuat seperti instruksi guru: menghapal rumus hingga menghapal doa. Kacaunya lagi pemerintah kadangkala melombakan itu semua.
Guru lalu bersikap diskriminatif karena menganggap siswa yang patuh saja patut untuk diapresiasi. Bayangkan saja banyak anak punya kemampuan unik musti ditanggalkan karena guru tak melihatnya sebagai potensi. Ingat saja bagaimana sejarah banyak orang besar di negeri ini yang tidak tercium bakatnya oleh lembaga pendidikan. Sejajar dengan kondisi ini kemudian sekolah membuat sistem penilaian dengan berbasis pada ranking. Sistem ini yang dipermanenkan dalam bentuk ujian yang dilakukan pada akhir masa belajar. Tak bisa dihindari dengan kerangka sistem seperti ini pendidikan seperti menciptakan unggulan dengan cara apa saja asal peroleh nilai terbaik. Guru dipacu bukan mengembangkan bakat siswa tapi menuntut siswa untuk menjadi apa yang dikehendakinya. Maka kemampuan tinggi dalam penguasaan pengetahuan diletakkan hanya dalam bentuk nilai.
Guru bisa membuat pelajaran yang penuh makna jadi dogma. Bayangkan jika pelajaran sejarah hanya mengurut tanggal kejadian, peristiwa dan hari lahir. Bukan hanya anak tak mengerti makna peristiwa tapi juga kurang merasa manfaat belajar ilmu sejarah. Bisa dilihat bagaimana jika ilmu-ilmu sosial dilatihkan dengan cara yang tekhnis, praktis dan berurutan maka pengetahuan hanya seperti terminal. Anak hanya merasa perlu untuk mengetahui tanpa punya minat untuk melakukan eksplorasi. Anak-anak hanya akan menjadi boneka yang diperankan oleh para gurunya: cakap dalam menghimpun kosata kata hingga mahir dalam menyatakan pendapat. Itu sebabnya pelajaran sosial selalu diremehkan, dianggap terlalu gampang dan tidak melatih kecakapan dalam analisa.
Kalau begitu maka pelajaran tak mengait satu sama lain. Belajar bahasa Indonesia tak bisa dikaitkan dengan matematika. Begitu pula belajar ilmu alam tak bisa didekatkan dengan ilmu agama. Terjadilah apa yang kini dengan mudah diidap oleh publik: mudah percaya pada berita apa saja dan gampang dibohongi oleh informasi apapun. Kita kurang merawat akal dan tidak mengasah rasio. Pendidikan hanya dimengerti dalam bentuk hapalan dan keberhasilanya terbit dalam bentuk nilai. Guru mendukung itu semua padahal tahu itu semua tak bawa kemajuan apa-apa. Malu kita menjadi negeri merdeka sekian lama tapi mutu pendidikanya kalah oleh negeri tetangga. Sepatutnya guru mulai berkaca mengapa tindakan mendidiknya kurang beri dampak apa-apa. Harusnya pemerintah juga mulai koreksi kenapa anggaran yang begitu besar tak menimbulkan perubahan yang besar.
